Show & Tell vintage goodies from the Spring Brocante

The odds of going to a vintage fair like this
and not coming out with an arm full of
beautiful vintage goodies .... is about a billion to one!

As I think I told you I was only a few minutes through the doorway and to the first stall that I spied when I saw this beautiful small quilt.  I saw it straight away and my husband spotted it too and we walked quickly up to it and unfolded it to look at.  It is so beautiful and it such beautiful colours and it was very reasonably priced, plus the lady gave me some discount on it.  I also found this beautiful hand made strawberry made from vintage fabrics and filled with lavender and although I do make them, this fabric was awesome so I bought one to hang in my sewing room to help deter any moths that think munching on vintage fabrics and quilts is fun!

See now two quilts in a week so you can see why I had to walk away from Emma's The Little Wren Vintage at the Blandford fair can't you!!

My next purchase was from Julia of Gazehound Vintage and I saw a vintage bird book.  I need one for a project that I am in the middle of and this book was, as you will see in the last photo, coming a part at the seams so and was a very reasonable £2 so I bought it so that I can cut it around.  If it had been in mint condition I really could not do that as I am a firm lover of books as is my friend Jane of Kiss the Book and I would not want to be a vandal at all.  Then my husband spied a beautiful old antique barn star and he knows I love them as does he.  It is a white one and will add to my little collection.  I was so very pleased with my vintage haul thus far.

Moving on now to my small purchase at Chalk and Paisley.  As I told you previously I had to check it out because of the name and I was looking with a keen eye for paisley fabrics and there were none there.  Of course a hoard of people had been past this delicious stall by now so it could have already been snapped up but anyway I saw a lovely paisley covered journal and this is what came home with me on Saturday...... it is only a small one but great to pop into my handbag for on the go designing and ideas.

I came across Hellish Designs and there was a great slubby vintage French sheet on offer and I snapped it up so that it can be cut up to embroider samplers and pictures on.  This is a beautiful sheet and great for more robust sorts of designs that I have in mind for later on in the year!  ..... If I can wait that long or I get a few days sold stitching and finish the ones I have on the go already.

You can see from the photo on the far right how it is a chunkier weave and it is so soft to the touch and would be easy to do some cross stitching on.....

As I told you all I found the lovely Simone from Ayres and Graces and she makes some really beautiful things from fabrics and clays.  All her clay animals are hand painted and look so life like and her stitching is beautiful.

I have a sleeping Hare of hers which as you know sits snoozing on our bed but this day I decided to bring home this beautiful hand stitched cushion with birds on.

Simone tells me she got her inspiration for this from the saying 'Birds of a feather flock together' and it means all of us vintage lovers and I thought that to be fabulous..... Now sat on the bed with snoozing Hare!

After my coffee break I spotted Suzi of Hearts 'N' Kisses and she makes some lovely bits for your home or as gifts.  I would be over the moon to receive something that she has made as a present.  I had seen that she had stitched some little pictures and I loved this one in particular.  It will go up in between two single beds and I think it will look wonderful.

The stitching reads 'night night God bless' and there is a person tucked up tightly in an old iron bed with quilts and a lace valance.  How lovely is this!

You can see by now I had my arms full of gorgeous vintage booty! and I was about to embark on going outside to the marquee to see what I could see.  There was some great bits of furniture and gardens wares as you know but tucked inside the marquee I came across Lisa from Lovely Hudson and she had some vintage quilt bundles and a packet of haberdashery items so temptation hit one more. The vintage quilt pieces are Victorian in age so I was really very pleased indeed.

Look at the beautiful colours of the quilt pieces and the bag full of threads.  The threads are great so they are now neatly tucked up in a drawer for use and the quilt pieces are snug in the quilt piece box.  This was a great treasure hunt find.

My last purchase of the day was from Melonberry Vintage and this was the lady who amongst other beautiful items on her stall had vintage ribbons by the meter and packs of lace on offer and I saw these three that had to come home with me.  All very pretty and now with the other laces and notions in there own box.

Look at the beige lace flower .. I do not know yet what this will be stitched to but it will be a most beautiful addition to whatever it is I finally design around this gorgeous piece of vintage lace.

I love Vintage trimmings and it was hard to choose from what was on offer.

Well this was my Vintage treasure haul from the Spring Brocante in West Sussex and I thought I did really well.  I am happy with all my purchases and in particular, as you can imagine the quilt.

Have a wonderful day today and it is not such a manic week for me so lots of stitching should be going on.

After such a busy week I think I will have an early night tonight and rest up a bit for my week ahead.

Happy Stitching!

  1. Wow! you did well. I'm like you with books, even in the condition of the one you purchased I could not bring myself to do anything with it, I can't even tear an article out of a magazine..........
Its lovely you both loved the quilt.

  2. Thank you Julie and the quilt is a treasure. I am afraid this book has succumbed to another project which had to be done but I did look for one where pages were falling and it has now gone into a form of transformation!
