The joys of designing for publication......

A designer knows when they have achieved perfection.
Not when there is nothing left to add, but
when there is nothing to take away.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

When I set out designing for publication I know what I am designing will be seen by a lot of people, but the care taken is no more or less than if I am designing for a commission.

With a commission you are given some idea of what a person would like, where as when you design something for lots of people to see, you hope that it will appeal to most.  There in can lie the difficulty sometimes.

Not everyone likes certain colour palettes for example but it is the idea that sells.  People can make a version of what you have designed and with whatever colour pleases them.  I only work with vintage fabrics, linens and buttons and in addition to that I only buy either vintage embroidery threads or hand dyed new ones from America ( The shaker ones)  It is what pleases me.  If you prefer more of a modern take on something then buy new vibrant threads and fabrics and the same design can look and feel totally different.  So I am really selling the idea to some people and the lifestyle as well to others.

I have a few more designs I am working on and I am truly very pleased with the results thus far. My days are varied and busy and I am enjoying sitting in my garden stitching in the warmth of the day and under the umbrella so that I can see what I am doing!!

So I am away to my stitching and hope that you have a wonderful day whatever you are doing today.

 Happy Stitching!
