Inspiration from antique embroidery ~ with a French twist!

I love history, everything is inspired by it and so that is why I love vintage and antiques.

Lately I have been inspired by looking at antique French clothing.  I have been studying the beauty of the intricate embroidery and attention to detail.  I have been sketching away and doodling ideas.

My head buried in history books and looking on line at antique collections and pictures to come up with a beautiful design of my own.

I am drawn to the light blue/greys and have just bought two small vintage mother of pearl buckles for this project and have been sketching pretty flower like designs as well as looking for the perfect fabric to accompany this project....

Marie Antoinette era has captured my imagination thoroughly.  The Louis heel shoes with hand stitched embroidery and the costume of the time.

Looking at flowers and ivy with tiny bud details.  I have four pages of sketches already to take my inspiration from for my final design.

I have some beautiful embroidery threads is the palest of blues and greys along with cream.  In addition I have some vintage beads as well so all is going to plan but I do need some fabric.  I can not explain it to you except I will know it when I see it so that is not really helpful at all is it!! but it will have to be in those colour schemes I have mentioned.  This is a inspiration basket in the making and all I need now is my final design and the elusive fabric that is dancing around in my imagination!

In the meantime I really must get on with some stitchery myself with this wonderful late summer weather I think I may sit in the garden today with it and watch my little birds who visit me flutter about and the squirrel who is busy getting ready for winter .....

Have a wonderful day and Happy Stitching!

  1. When someone writes an paragraph he/she retains the idea of a user in his/her brain that how a user can be aware of it. So that's why this paragraph is perfect. Thanks!bulkhead lights
