Talking vintage hankies!

If you sneeze on Monday, you sneeze for danger;

Sneeze on a Tuesday, kiss a stranger;

Sneeze on a Wednesday, sneeze for a letter;

Sneeze on a Thursday, something better;

Sneeze on a Friday, sneeze for sorrow;

Sneeze on a Saturday, see your sweetheart to-morrow.

I would just like to say something about the sneezing rhyme above, there is nothing said about sneezing on a Sunday, so be warned I am guessing it is not allowed!!


The hankies arrived safely and I manged to photograph them for you all to look at as promised.  I am so very
pleased with them and love the ones with tiny cross stitch flowers on  but I do have a favourite and I think that is why I bought the bundle of them, just for this one.  Yes I know you can see a colour that I can not now stop purchasing! RED.
This hanky is so beautiful I fell for it straight away.  Now I have not decided at all what it will be used for and it would be criminal to cut it up so it will have to be used as a whole .... I will keep thinking about it as I am pleased to announce I have settled to the whale picture so everything else is on hold to finish it and then I will have a proper think.

All of that said I do still love all of them, in the bundle they have two with tiny cross stitch as I said above and they are stitched beautifully have a look...



As the design is in the corner of each of them you could cut those out and stitch them to something but again I feel it would have been slightly criminal as well, especially as one of them has blue stitchery dots and the other dark pink ones in the corners.  I loved the daisies on the circle of flowers.

Then there is a white hanky with white embroidery and it is such a beautiful cloth as well, it is much bigger than the rest of them.  The rose is stitched so perfectly, it makes you wonder on such a delicate cotton.  Then there is the delicate hardhanger work as well, it truly is a beauty!

Two more have the blue embroidery work and again the cotton is so fine and beautifully soft.  These are very pretty and my hanky collection is slightly growing at the moment.

I have been stitching some together as a net curtain type thing for the forever home but stopped as we have not found it yet as you know but I though a small one for the downstairs toilet here would work .... and of course could be added to if needed eventually.  So keen am I to use some without cutting them about.


This is the last of this batch of beauties and it has a gorgeous design in one corner with blues and reds, again I am wanting to keep it as a whole.  I like the thought of when they are all washed thoroughly, starched and pressed they will make great net type curtains for bathrooms and toilets so I
am busily looking out all the time for different and pretty ones.  Then I can stitch some for other people too if they order one ... I think its a great idea.

In addition to that you can cut some about and make shear bunting from some or indeed fold them corner to corner and stitch them together for bunting without cutting them up.  Great to put in the garden of a summer when you are having a party or gathering.  Because they are such delicate fabrics they flutter beautifully in the breeze.

Well that is my show and tell today of my newest hanky collection.  Dawn one of my readers made a beautiful hanging heart form a pretty hanker chief and sent me a photo is is so very pretty.  There are lots of things you can do with some antique hankies and so many have such lovely stitching on them so the embellishment is already there for you.
